Reporting and connections

LMS integration

Wise Ed does not try to be a learning platform. It keeps the one the school already uses in step with the student records, and appears inside its courses: Moodle through its web services, and Moodle, Canvas, Brightspace or Blackboard through LTI 1.3.

  • A dry run in plain words before anything changes
  • Nothing reaches an exam record without a person
  • Off until the school switches it on

Moodle, kept in step

  • Courses and categories: one course per subject and academic year, in a category per programme and year of study, named by the school’s own patterns.
  • Students enrolled from the curriculum, the timetable groups the subject is taught to, or its exam records — the school chooses which.
  • Teachers enrolled: the subject’s holder, the assessors of its exam records and the lecturers the timetable gives the course, with the Moodle roles the school sets.
  • The timetable’s groups as Moodle groups, where the school wants them.
  • A dry run first, in plain words — “Create the course Mathematics I (2025/26)”, “Enrol Ana Novak” — with who is held back and why. One button then applies exactly what was shown; or the nightly job does.
  • Nothing is deleted. A second run with nothing new changes nothing; a person who no longer belongs is taken out of a course only if Wise Ed itself enrolled them and the school has switched that on.
  • A pilot first, if the school likes: the sync can be limited to chosen programmes.

Inside the course, by LTI 1.3

  • What a course can show: the subject’s timetable, its exam dates and registration, the student’s grades for the subject, “My progress”, and the subject’s course materials.
  • Deep linking. The teacher adds an activity, chooses Wise Ed, and picks what to embed.
  • Who is who comes from the platform: the person is matched by e-mail as a student or a lecturer. Somebody not matched sees only the public part — the timetable and the exam dates, never anybody’s grades.
  • Every launch fully checked: the platform’s signature, the issuer, the audience, the expiry, the deployment and a single-use state, so a replayed launch is refused.
  • No cookie inside the frame. Browsers block third-party cookies in an LMS frame, so Wise Ed works there with a short-lived token for the length of a lesson.

Grades, both ways

  • From the LMS into Wise Ed. The Moodle gradebook, or any platform’s through LTI grade services, is pulled back onto a mapping screen: each grade item is mapped to a component of the subject’s assessment scheme or to a coursework obligation, and carried into Wise Ed only when a person says so.
  • From Wise Ed into the LMS. The published component points and the confirmed final grades are sent into the platform’s gradebook — per platform, off by default, by hand or every night.
  • The exam record stays append-only. A grade from the LMS becomes a grade on an exam record only through the record’s own way, never overwriting one.
  • Failures in the office’s words. Every call is logged with its outcome; a platform that is slow or busy is tried again later, and a problem the school must fix is named with what to do.

How a school connects

  1. Moodle’s address and token

Typed into the LMS settings. The token is stored sealed and never shown again.

  2. The rules

Naming patterns, who counts as a student and as a teacher, the roles, whether accounts are made for people Moodle does not know.

  3. The LTI platforms

Each platform the school registers, with the addresses Wise Ed gives it to type into the LMS. The Moodle administrator’s guide walks through both sides.

  4. The dry run, then Apply

The office reads what would change, applies it, and switches on the nightly run when it is happy with the result.

Not yet

  • Wise Ed has no learning platform of its own: quizzes, assignments and forums stay in the school’s LMS.
  • The web-service sync is Moodle’s. Canvas, Brightspace and Blackboard connect through LTI 1.3 and its grade services; their courses and enrolments are not created from Wise Ed.
  • Proved against test platforms so far. The first school to connect its own LMS does it as a pilot, with Wise Technologies beside it.

Questions about the LMS integration

Will Wise Ed change our existing Moodle courses?

Only what the dry run shows and the office applies. It makes the courses, categories and groups it is set to make and enrols the people it finds. It deletes no course, and never touches an enrolment somebody else made in Moodle.

Can Moodle grades go straight into the exam record?

No — on purpose. They arrive on the mapping screen, and a person carries them into the assessment scheme or the coursework obligations. The grade on the exam record is still confirmed by the examiner.

Does it work with Canvas or Brightspace?

Yes, through LTI 1.3: Wise Ed inside the course, deep linking, and grades sent and read through the LTI grade services. The automatic creation of courses and enrolments is Moodle’s only.

Does grade exchange start by itself?

It begins once somebody has opened Wise Ed from the course: that launch tells Wise Ed where the course’s gradebook is. The school then switches the exchange on per platform.

Works with

Each module works on its own. These are the ones it does more with.

Exams and grades

Exam records, online grade entry, rules that say why, sign-off and the transcript.

Assessment

The subject holder’s own scheme: components, points, weights and grade bands.

Course materials

Lecturers’ files and links per subject, for the students who take it.

Integrations

Public API, Zapier, webhooks, Moodle and LTI, Microsoft sign-in, accounting.
